In(ter)play

The collaborative project titled “In(ter)play” explores the stage as a means of rebirth and transformation through a combination of a variety of instruments, vocals and body movement. The project consist of a four collaborations, each in dialogue and exchange through interaction, improvisation and composed music.

This project was a way to work through the grieving process after the loss of my mother. The musical theme for this show was inspired by the idea that the grieving process can lead to self-discovery, empowerment and transformation. During this time, I explored the notion of archetypes and how we can transcend the victim archetype by moving into the archetype of the warrior through vulnerability, imagination and creativity.

Additional project

The exhibition The Tower was an extension of “In(ter)play”. It was a means to promote the experimental scene throughout Taiwan. The aim was to create a peek into Taipei’s experimental music scene and performing arts. The title refers to one of the Major Arcana tarot cards, the tower, which represents a powerful image of a solid tower being struck by lightning. This card is commonly interpreted as a sudden or unforeseen change. The tower card can be seen as a sign of danger, crisis and destruction but could also represent change and liberation.

Experimental music and performing arts generally refer to any genre or performing act that pushes boundaries and genre definitions. Thus, creating a “tower effect” in how we perform and perceive the performing arts.

The Tower consists of a series of photographs of experimental performances representing a selected group of performers from Taipei. The goal of the exhibition was to give the audience a peek into some of Taipei’s upcoming performers in the experimental performing arts and music scene. Each performer has been exploring their medium and performances in unique ways, pushing boundaries and finding new ways of expression.
